Leak Testing Specialists, Inc. (LTS) was established in 1995 by Gary Elder, P.E. Initially, the company specialized in training courses for customers to comply with ASNT guidelines. Shortly thereafter, the company established a field-testing division, to leak test customer’s equipment and to perform on-site test surveillance. In addition, in-house testing of the customer’s product was implemented. More recently, LTS has expanded its training program course offerings to include additional technical content.
LTS works to produce leak testing innovations, insights into product design for testing, and a generation of persons—both employees, and clients—who are well equipped in both theoretical and practical knowledge to provide high-reliability leak testing across a wide variety of applications and industries. This high reliability extends to the following:
LTS exists to make leak testing for science and industry reliable and economical, thereby making the world safer and more prosperous.
LTS employees commit themselves to these moral codes:

Director of Engineering
David is a licensed Engineer with over 30 years of experience in product design, manufacture, inspection, and field support working within the US Navy’s Nuclear Propulsion Program (NNPP) and at Leak Testing Specialists. In the last 20 years, Mr. Kuhn has focused primarily in the quality assurance and inspection areas with a specialty in Nondestructive Testing (NDT).
At Bechtel, Mr. Kuhn worked initially with design and manufacturing efforts involving M-140 Irradiated Fuel Shipping and the Dry Storage Program Spent Fuel Canisters. Mr. Kuhn also worked in the field technical support area for aircraft carrier and submarine refueling/defueling effort and Irradiated Fuel Shipping Cask maintenance. Later, Mr. Kuhn became the lead for the NNPP NDT Level III qualification program for NAVSEA 250-1500-1 and MIL-STD-2132. He also was the lead author for NNPP qualification program specification, NSTR-99, and the NDT portions of the NNPP Welding Standard, NAVSEA 250-1500-1. Mr. Kuhn was the lead instructor for the NNPP N-series Government Inspector NDT training where he taught up to nine courses a year. In addition, Mr. Kuhn acted as one of the primary technical NDT experts for the evaluation of the NNPP vendor and shipyard/prototype facilities.
Mr. Kuhn joined LTS to become the principal procedure writer for the company and occasionally instruct leak test training courses. Mr. Kuhn provides a specialty with 10CFR50 Type B Package Shipping Cask leak testing. Also, Mr. Kuhn has been the lead for several thermal testing studies for various Type B Casks and developed the LTS liquid penetrant and visual inspection DFS programs. He is a member of the ASTM E07 committee for leak testing and the ASNT LT committee.
Mr. Kuhn is a certified ASNT Level III in Leak, Ultrasonic, Radiography, Liquid Penetrant, and Visual Testing methods. He is an American Welding Society (AWS) Certified Weld Inspector, NNPP Qualified Radiation Worker and Dimensional Inspector, and NNPP NDT Specification Certified Examiner in Visual, Liquid Penetrant, Magnetic Particle, Ultrasonic, and Radiography testing methods.
Mr. Kuhn holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering Science and Mechanics and a Master of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering. He has a Pennsylvania Professional Engineering License in Mechanical Engineering.
